Flexibility is our forte. When it comes to providing one-on-one admissions support for students and their families, Pearl Glassman Educational Counseling offers a wide range of choices. Whether you are seeking a multi-year package or hourly consulting, traditional or specialty services, our options are designed to meet your individual needs, budget, and time constraints.

From start to finish, our emphasis is on understanding your goals and mapping out an effective plan of action. Most of our clients engage us during the sophomore and junior year; however, we welcome students whenever they are ready to get started.

Choose either a 10-hour or comprehensive package for the following:

  • Identify, examine, and document individual interests, strengths, special abilities, learning style, and aptitude.

  • Evaluate the student’s academic background through various assessment tools.

  • Develop a personal action plan that emphasizes the student’s strengths, goals, and needs.

  • Begin identifying potential colleges, majors, and careers for the student to explore.

  • Establish an individual action plan and timeline to ensure the timely completion and submission of applications and supplementary materials.

  • Regularly review and update schedules and timetables, as necessary.

  • Keep the student focused, productive, and on track.

  • Review and assess the student’s high school curriculum.

  • Advise course selection for positive impact on the student’s potential.

  • Identify specific courses that will strengthen the student’s application and promote an interest in future majors and careers. 

  • Evaluate the personal and community-based benefits of the student’s current activities and service work.

  • Help the student develop additional meaningful and beneficial extracurricular activities and community service opportunities.

  • Suggest summer activities, including internships, employment, pre-college programs and community service experiences that will strengthen the student’s applications and encourage the discovery and exploration of new interests.

  • Encourage the ongoing development of a “targeted” résumé that aligns with academic and career goals and reflects the student’s interests, strengths, and contributions.

  • Help the student compile all relevant high school experiences into an organized, professional résumé for campus open houses, college fairs, interviews, and applications.

  • Assist the student in generating an initial college list by matching academic, personal, and financial profiles to the appropriate higher educational institutions.

  • Enable the student to determine a final list that aligns with test scores, GPA, institutional and social fit, and financial viability.

  • Provide guidance about the appropriateness of Early Decision, Early Action, and Regular Decision applications.

  • Assist with managing the deferred or wait-list process, if necessary.

  • Help with making a final choice when decision letters are received.

  • Institute a testing strategy and identify appropriate tests, test prep options, and testing timeline.

  • Analyze the student’s standardized test performance and suggest possible action plans.

  • Provide the student with instructions, tips, and questions for a successful college visit.

  • Prepare the student for effective interactions with interviewers and college representatives and suggest follow-up strategies.

  • Discuss and help the student develop interview questions that will promote a successful and informative interview.

  • Conduct mock interviews.

  • Assist in identifying the teachers whose recommendation will most strongly impact the student’s goals.

  • Advise the student on how to approach and ask teachers for recommendations.

  • Assist the student in providing teachers and counselors with the relevant personal information that will help generate effective letters of recommendation.

  • Brainstorm stories, themes, and topics with the student.

  • Explain what admissions counselors are looking for when they read the student’s essay.

  • Review essays for concept, content, vocabulary, and sentence structure.

  • Aid the student in developing a personal voice that creates memorable and impactful essays.

  • Help the student with information gathering and input.

  • Review completed applications and supplementary materials.

  • Offer guidance and advice for navigating wait-lists and deferrals.

  • Provide general financial aid advice and timeline reminders to students and parents.

  • Assist students in exploring and applying to appropriate scholarships.

  • Review the student’s scholarship application essays.

  • Advise families on how to interpret and negotiate financial aid offers.

  • Provide guidance for applications requiring supplementary materials for specific majors including artistic portfolios, and theater and musical (voice/instrument) auditions.

  • Conduct mock interviews.

  • Review and discuss prior academic records, including transcripts, test scores, IEPs, 504 plans or other accommodations.

  • Identify schools that offer specialized support for students with learning differences.

  • Suggest effective testing and classroom strategies.

  • Recommend LD evaluation specialists and experienced tutors who assist LD students with standardized test preparation.

  • Help the student identify schools that will be both a strong academic and athletic fit.

  • Encourage interactions with coaches and provide advice on how to effectively communicate with them.

  • Provide support with the recruitment process.

  • Recommend academy-focused programs and camps to strengthen résumé.

  • Assist with school selections and applications.

  • Provide guidance regarding nominations, physical requirements, scholarships, and recruitment regulations and commitments.

  • Review the student’s transcript and test scores to identify strengths and preferences.

  • Offer advice on appropriate procedures for exiting the student’s current school.

  • Help the student research possible majors, careers, and schools.

  • Conduct mock interviews.

  • Assist with the completion of the student’s applications and supplementary materials.
